Our regiment has a proud tradition of fielding a strong, competent and well respected pike block We have members from both sexes and everyone is made to feel welcome and part of a very close knit team. A pikeman's equipment consists of a 14-16' long ash pike. Historically this would have been tipped with a sharp metal point, in the interests of safety ours are silver painted wood. Your head is protected with a steel 'Spanish Morion' type helmet, an essential and also compulsory piece of equipment.

Some Pikemen wear steel armour in the form of a back and breastplate secured with leather straps. This is also available through specialist traders within the society and can be borrowed for a battle or two to see if you like wearing it, some people don't get on with it very well. The majority of kit can be loaned to the new recruit for their first season to help save money and hopefully encourage you to join.
During the muster season all new recruits are trained by an experienced pikeman prior to taking the field and helped on the field for the first few battles. So don't feel that we just throw you in the deep end and let you get on with it. As with all arms within the regiment, if you join and decide that pike isn't for you, try one of the others. We'll guarantee to find you something you'll enjoy.
Slanning's are often pitted against the ‘Blew
Regiment’
, a Parliament
‘London Trayned Band’, who provide an exhaustive pike
drill manual on the
“Posing, Posturing & Positioning”
of their block!
